Temple of the Tooth

 The Temple of  tooth is a World famous shrine where the left tooth relic of Gautma buddha resides. The temple of the tooth which has a high cultural value, is like the pinnacle of the world's Buddhist population. it is a place pf special reverence for local and foreign devotees on a daily basis.

The temple of Tooth is rich arch, textural features as well as kandyan featares. In 1988, The city of kandy, where the temple of tooth is                                                                                             located was declared a world heritage site by                                                                                                UNESCO.

The temple of the tooth  is located east of Kandy city near the Udawaththa jungle and Bogambara lake located to the south to the west are the Natha and Paththin fanes. 

The temple of the tooth a magnificent structure is Father adorned with gold, silver and brass carvings. The first temple of the tooth in Kandy was built by king Wimaladharmasooriya I Destroyed from time to time by Portuguese and  Dutch invaders but restored by various king.



King Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe has restored the temple of tooth to its Present appearance. Paththirippuwa is built by King Sri Wikkrama Rajasingha since the tooth relic was considered as the heritage of the kingdom from ancient times, the kings protected the tooth relic with their lives.
There are four main fanes associated with temple of tooth. They are Natha, Wishnu, Paththini and Katharagama. another important place in the temple of tooth is the museum.

There are historical documentary photographs related to the temple of the Tooth and the Tooth relic in the museum. The Esala Perahera is also a traditional Festival associated with the temple of the  Tooth is Kandy However, the temple of the tooth is a valuable resource for all us Buddhist is Sri Lanka.
