POSON FESTIVAL
Poson festival is special for Buddhists.
They celebrate this day as agate Festive occasion. Poson day is a sacred day for Buddhist for many reasons. The important reason for Sri Lankan is, the arrival of Reverend Mahinda Thero with another 5 Buddhist monks and devotes called banduka. This arrival was a turning point of the history of our country. It is reverend Mahinda who brought supreme Buddhism to Sri Lankan. We received it as a gift of the then king of India. Dharmashoka. The revival of Sri Lankan civilization began with the arrival of reverend Mahinda thero.
Buddhist all over the country go on Pilgrimages to Anuradhapura during the poson season. They climb the rock Mihinthalaya which is believed that the reverend Mahinda thero arrived. at They revere this sacred mountain by singing devotional Songs. pandas are crested depicting various Jathaka stories to celebrate the sign faience of the day. many devotees observe sil. Specially in Anuradhapura and other temples of the country.
various organizations arrange various kinds of 'Dansal' Where food items are given free of charge Buddhist spend this sacred day engaging in many religious activities. This day is very important to inculcate pious thoughts in people's minds. The greatest respect that we can show to reverend Arahath Mahinda who provided us with supreme Buddhism is, living according to the preaching of the Lord Buddha, shedding all petty differences among us.
