Dowson Tower

 Anyone on Colombo Kandy road will see a tower directly above the town of Kadugannawa.

That' s Dawson tower.

There is also a story from the past about the construction of this tower captain William Francis Dawson was in charge of the contraction of the Colombo Kandy road during the British rule.  It was very difficult to build a road through Kadugannawa. But captain Dawson did it well However, he did not live to see the closure of the road. captain Dawson, who was very ill, died in 1829. after Dawson's  death Dawson tower was built by his friends to admire Dawson service.  

It was built at a height of 1730 feet above sea level on the top of the Kadugannawa hill, the most difficult fort on the Colombo - Kandy road. It is 125 feet high there is a metal staircase that extends from the base of the tower to the top. It is also built with a strong foundation at the base of the tower, you can enjoy the surroundings. many tourists came here now days. We can  see how some people have done some damage here.

But it is our duty to protect this tower built in memory of captain Dawson. who did a great service for Sri Lanka.
