Pinnawala Elephant orphanage

 Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a wonderful Place to watch activities of the elephant.

It is located in Pinnawala area in Rambukkana town in Kegalla District of Sabaragamuwa Province. 
It is an important breeding ground for elephants as well as a wildlife museum and a conservatory. Pinnawala elephant orphanage has the largest herd of elephant in the world. It was established in 1975 and currently managed by department zoology. This began for the care and protection of mange orphaned elephants in the forests of Sri Lanka.  There are baby elephant that have last there parents due to various reasons and also there are elephants that have been injured due to accidents. Nearly go elephants are take care here. At the presents it has 41males and 48 females.



 As well as elephants are well fed. Elephants are usually given kithul branches, jackfruit twinge and fruits. The nearby " ma oya" fulfills the huge water needs of the elephants. There is a daily schedule at the pinnawala elephant orphanage. the elephant orphanage which opens to tourists at 8.30 A. M will be close at 6.00 P.M. During that period activities such s feeding baby elephant, feeding other elephant and taking the hard to the "ma oya" for bathing. Both local and foreign visitors who came elephant orphanage can enjoy a refreshing experience due to this ecological beauty. And also this is a one of the mayor foreign exchange earning destination is Sri Lanka. It has bee doing a great service for Sri Lanka than 4 decades There fore it is our responsibility to protect the Pinnawala elephant orphanage.
